Greensburg recognizes students with honor

GREENSBURG - Thirty-six members of the Greensburg Community High School Class of 2008 are candidates for Indiana Academic Honors Diplomas. They and their parents were recognized at a banquet on March 18.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Dennis Goldberg opened the program with praise for the students and their willingness to commit to learning at a higher level.

After dinner, each student was introduced by Ruth Cash, senior class sponsor, and was presented a medallion by Jeff Nolting, Market 1 President for MainSource Bank, and Philip Chapple, principal of the high school.

Dr. Matthew Gauck, a 1996 graduate of Greensburg Community High School, was the guest speaker for the evening. He is a graduate of Purdue University and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Gauck is a chiropractor in private practice in Greensburg. He urged the students to add their experiences to a life portfolio for future reference. In addition, he encouraged them to build a list of personal contacts and enroll in diverse courses of interest.

Gauck suggested that at 18, one is probably not prepared to commit to graduate degrees required by some professions. Rather, he urged the students to commit to certifications and undergraduate degrees that would prepare them to move to the next academic level. Take one step at a time in preparing for a career and do not be afraid of change, he said.

Superintendent Tom Hunter closed the program by congratulating the honored guests and complimenting their parents on a job well done. On behalf of the Greensburg Community Schools, he thanked MainSource Bank for their continued financial support of the event.
