Unlucky 17 for Pirates

On the road at Hauser, the No. 17 was unlucky for the visiting Pirates as the Jets posted a four game victory over Greensburg 25-17, 25-17, 26-28, 25-17.  In game three, the Pirates trailed 24-17 before rallying for the victory behind the serving of April Hershauer.

The tone was set quite early in the match as signs started pointing towards another rough night for these Pirates with the first Hauser serve falling for an ace.  Passing has been the struggle for the Pirates and according to coach, Randy Obermeyer, that continued on Thursday.  When the Pirates were able to get the ball to the setter, "we had awesome attacks that followed.  We just need more of those plays if we are going to get over this losing streak."

Coach Obermeyer pointed the improvements for the Pirates in other parts of the game were many.

"Our blockers made many contacts on the ball, which slowed the ball for our defensive players in the backcourt.  Our setters picked up on tips very well tonight, which really kept us into the games.  Our hitters were much more aggressive than in the past.  We communicated more and transition very well and we were able to hold onto the serve for more points," noted Obermeyer.

From the attack line, Ciara Hershauer led the pack with 11 kills, while sister April and Holly Kohrman tied with five.  Kohrman and Erica Oakely tied with 10 assists each.

On the defensive side, Ciara Hershauer led the team in digs with 13, followed by Ashley Leitgabel and Kohrman with 11 each.  Kelly Nicholson also dug for 10.  Brittany Redelman had four solo blocks with Ciara Hershauer, Carolyn Moore and April Hershauer stuffing three each.

The reserve Pirates lost in two games by the scores of 25-12, 25-11.
