Panthers get past Pirates

On the road at Jennings County the lone win for Greensburg''s volleyball team came in the freshman contest as the young Pirates rallied to win 21-25, 25-19, 15-12.

"We still had a problem playing fundamental ball throughout the match, but serving did improve in the second and third games to pull out the win," noted coach Brian Dodson.

The freshmen recorded 17 kills, six assists, five serving aces and one block. The freshman are now 3-2 on the season.

In the reserve match, Greensburg fell in two games 25-21, 25-13.

The Pirates tallied 11 kills, four aces and 12 digs for the match.

The varsity Pirates lost another tough one - their second five-game match of the young season 25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 25-27, 15-10.

"I was very pleased in the performance of these young ladies, and am confident their losing streak is about over. Once fundamentally sound, these girls will be unstoppable," added Obermeyer.

The leaders from the attack line included Ciara Hershauer with 14 kills, with Holly Kohrman finishing with 11 while April Hershauer ended with 10. Erica Oakley finished the night with five service aces and 15 assists. Kohrman also ended with 15 assists.

From the defensive end of the court, Ciara and April Hershauer tied with 12 digs each while Kohrman ended with 11.

The Pirates travel to Oldenburg Academy at 5 p.m. Thursday.
