Twisters top Pirates

Greensburg's volleyball teams traveled to Oldenburg Academy on Thursday where only the Junior Varsity team came out with the win, which was their first win of the season. With the win, the Junior Varsity is now 1-6 on the season and 0-3 in EIAC.

The Junior Varsity Pirates dominated the first game where nothing could go wrong for them, as ball after ball hit the floor on the opponent''''s court and Greensburg rolled to a 25-9 victory.

Mollye Leas started things off with serving as she toed the line for eight points to give Greensburg an 8-0 lead. Missed serves and hitting errors by the Twisters gave the Pirates the win.

Mollye Leas was very dominant in the front row as she ended the night with seven kills. Jessica Morris dominated on defense as she dug for 10. From the service line, Morris also tied with Amber Leitgabel with three service aces.

The second game was much closer as Oldenburg grabbed a 23-20 lead. The next point went to Greensburg and then Kylie Hanmer served out the game to give the Pirates the 25-23 victory.

In the Varsity match, the Pirates struggled against the host Twisters and fell in three games 25-14, 25-14, 25-15.

"We struggled on all ends of the court tonight. A completely different team stepped out on the OA court than was on the Jennings County court on Tuesday," noted Greensburg coach, Randy Obermeyer. "Poor passing made it impossible to get into any sort of offensive system."

"You just can't compete against a team like Oldenburg when you make the kind of mistakes that we made tonight over and over again. The Oldenburg defense caused 20 hitting errors by us. We also made 10 service errors and were aced another five times," added Obermeyer.

With the loss, the Pirates are now 1-9 on the season and 0-3 in the EIAC. Next up for Greensburg is EIAC foe Franklin County at home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
