Spartan knock off Pirates spikers in three games

Visiting Connersville handed the Pirates'' volleyball team its fourth loss in as many tries as Greensburg was defeated in three games 25-12, 25-20, 25-13.
"This match saw us in a different defensive formation, which was just introduced to the girls yesterday at practice. They handled the change well and covered the floor very good on defense, but we still lacked the offensive power that we needed to win the match," noted Pirate coach Randy Obermeyer.
Leading the Pirates from the attack line was Ciara Hershauer with 12 kills, followed by Carolyn Moore with seven kills.Leading the setters was Holly Kohrman again with nine assists, while Erica Oakley ended with five. Oakley also tied Ciara Hershauer in digs with 10. Kelly Nicholson toed the tape for two service aces.
In Junior Varsity action, the Pirates were defeated in three games 24-25, 25-10, 15-11.
In game one, Amber Leitgabel put away four kills, while Mollye Leas had three.
Game two showed only two total kills coming from the Pirates, while they were aced from the serve eight times.
Greensburg''s Freshmen volleyball team dropped its second match of the season to Connersville, 25-23, 25-14.
"Serving played a big part in the loss. We just couldn''t get a run started. It''s hard to win when you go one and out," noted coach Brian Dodson. "All in all we are making progress and the girls are willing to take change in stride."
As a team, the Freshman Pirates recorded 10 kills, six aces and four assists in the two games.
