Bragging rights in the county for the three high schools is now split. After South Decatur took care of Greensburg on Thursday in three games, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21, each of the teams has one win over another county school. So, this year''s bragging rights are shared three ways.

Earlier in the season, the Cougars fell to North Decatur. On Tuesday, the Chargers lost to Greensburg and South made it a split with Thursday''s victory.

"Our passing was a little shaky in the beginning. The girls made up for it in other ways until our passing picked up," said South coach Kelly Jameson after the win. "It was clear that Greensburg under-estimated my girls. If we continue to play with this intensity, we can have a good run in the sectional."

"We all went in with the attitude in our heads that we had already won the county championship after defeating North Decatur on Tuesday night. The attitude may have been in our heads, but the determination to make sure it happened was not," noted Greensburg coach Randy Obermeyer. "The one thing that South did have over us was the determination, the focus, excitement, and the drive to make sure that the win wasn't going to slip their grasp."

South got another big night from Kris Stout who served 14-for-15 with one ace and eight points, set 43-for-44 with nine assists, hit 22-for-26 with three kills and added one block.

Rebecca Bacon also put on a solid outing by serving 9-for-10 with five points and hitting perfect 18-for-18 with five kills.

"Rebecca has been really reliable and consistent for us at the net. She has really pulled through for us over the past couple games," said Jameson.

Danielle Grunkemeyer served 9-for-10 with one ace and five points, hit 16-for-18 with five kills and had two blocks. Tarra Waters served 9-for-9 with five points and set 32-for-34 with one assist. Nakema Gillenwater served 11-for-13 with two aces and nine points, hit 9-for-12 with two kills and added three blocks. Megan Johannigman served 9-for-11 with two aces and six points, set 5-for-5 with two assists and hit 9-for-12 with four kills. Julie French set 10-for-10 with three assists and hit 14-for-15 with four kills. Libero Jamie Huff passed for 36-for-39.

For the Pirates, Ashley Leitgabel passed 27-for-29 on serve receive and 15-for-16 on digs. The team, as a whole, scored 23 kills, 19 assists and 11 service aces.

"Holly Kohrman had another great performance of hustle tonight. It is a pleasure just watching this young lady play the game. If Holly is on the court and another player shanks a ball, and you think the ball is going to hit the floor you had better not turn your back. Holly will dive with everything she has, sacrificing herself to keep the ball from hitting the floor. She makes it look so easy, and she does it so naturally," noted Obermeyer.

Greensburg won the reserve contest in two games 25-10, 25-11. "It was another good solid performance by the JV Lady Pirates tonight and it seems their season has really taken a turn in the right direction," noted Greensburg coach, Randy Obermeyer.

For the Pirates, Tawna Chauncy had seven kills, and Amber Leitgabel had five kills. There were 19 total kills recorded for the junior varsity Pirates as well as 11 serving aces.
