Greensburg's volleyball team played host to the Golden Bears of Shelbyville on Tuesday where the visitors left with wins in all three matches.

The Freshman Pirates lost in two games 25-21,25-16 and drop to 4-3 on the season.

The reserve Pirates finished the match with more total points at 65-58, but lost the very close match by the scores of 25-24, 18-25, 15-14.

"A very good fundamental game was played by the JV team tonight, they can be very proud of the strides they have made to get to this point.  Although the match score showed them as the losing team, they came out winners," noted Pirates head coach Randy Obermeyer.

Coach Andrea Wynn with her Junior Varsity Lady Pirates  Mollye Leas led the reserve Pirates from the attack with nine kills while Tawna Chauncy came in second with eight.  Melissa Fry aced four serves while Kylie Hanmer dug for 13.  Amber Leitgabel and April Faulconer tied with 11 assists each.  The loss drops the reserves to 1-8 on the season and 0-4 in the EIAC.

Greensburg fell in the varsity match in three games 25-23, 25-15, 25-22.

"We matched up well with he strong hitting team of Shelbyville.  We kept ourselves in the games by not letting them set up their strong attack.  Passing from the serve became the downfall of the match especially leading to the end of the third game.  We are a good enough team to beat teams like Shelbyville.  I repeat, we are a good enough team to beat teams like Shelbyville.  I just need everyone on the team to believe in that as much as I do." noted Obermeyer.  "I was very pleased with the overall performance of every player I put on the court tonight.  They are getting better at all aspects of the game every time they set foot on the court."

Leading the team in kills this match was Kelly Nicholson with seven -- a 32 percent kill percentage.

"Kelly has become a dominant factor in both offense an defense, and I am very proud of her.  Her hard work and great attitude is paying off for the entire team, and if you ever need to see a smile, just look her way", noted Obermeyer.

Leading the team in digs tonight was Ciara Hershauer with 14 digs.  Holly Kohrman really stepped it up tonight with her setting game, as she led the team in set assists with 15.  Leading the way behind the pass from serve receive was Ashley Leitgabel with 15.  An astonishing stat the night comes from April Hershauer serving a perfect 100 percent out of 18 serves with one ace.

With the loss, the varsity squad is now 2-10 on the season and 1-3 in the EIAC.  The Pirates travel to Lawrenceburg at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
